Position
The Bee Research Lab seeks a postdoctoral scientist for a USDA CBG-funded project on transportation stress in honeybees. The work characterizes how transport affects colony health — behavior, physiology, immune response, pathogen prevalence, and pesticide resistance — sampling before, during, and after transport. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Design and run molecular experiments (CRISPR, cloning, PCR/qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, Illumina and long-read library prep)
- Perform bioinformatic and statistical analysis
- Write manuscripts, presentations, and agency reports
- Maintain lab records; meet weekly with the PI
- Mentor undergraduate researchers and support lab operations
Qualifications
Required: Ph.D. in Entomology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field; strong written and verbal communication; demonstrated research productivity.
Preferred: 2+ years in insect or general molecular biology, pathogen research, or cell/developmental biology; peer-reviewed publications in these areas; experience with bee viruses, CRISPR, and cloning; 2+ years with Python or MATLAB for image processing and bioinformatics; Illumina sequencing; experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
